Sydney Gas and AGL Gas Development are preparing for a new round of seismic exploration for the coal seam methane on their exploration leases in the Hunter Valley. This activity will cover a large area ranging from Singleton to Wybong including Putty road at Wybong. In our area this will include parts of the Putty Road near Mt. Thorley.
This is the sort of equipment used for generating sonic waves needed to acquire images of the underground geological strata. Unfortunately, last time this was done in the Wollombi valley there was considerable damage to the hard surface of Singleton Council roads caused by vibrating steel blades (see Gas Watch 24).
